Day 1: Inauguration
Inauguration of the Induction program for the BBA.LLB batch 2017-22 held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. The ceremony commenced with a warm and motivating welcome speech delivered by Dr. Akanksha Singh, Director (Administration). It was followed by Lamp lighting wherein students were also invited to the podium along with the dignitaries. Dr. Michael Pittaro, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at the American Military University, West Virginia graced the occasion as Guest of Honour for the inaugural session. In the next session, Dr. Pittaro delivered a wonderful speech on ‘Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders’. Later, the faculties were introduced to students by Ms. Avisha Nebhnani, Assistant Professor, UWSL. It was followed by orientation lectures by Ms. Gunajan Arora on Moot court society, Ms. Sonia Shali & Shrut Brahmbhatt on cultural society, Aseem Jha on Internship and Placement committee and Dr. Debarati Halder on Research Committee.
The first half of the second day of the UWSL induction program 2017 started with ‘Saraswati Vandana’ where two of the most talented students of Unitedworld school of Law, Mauni Thakkar (5th Sem) and Darshi Mankad (7th Sem), gave a scintillating dance performance. Later on, the Guest of Honours of today’s event Mr. Vinod Agrawal, founder member of IBF, CII and ex General Secretary of Indian Association in China, Renowned Product Designer and Entrepreneur Mr. Dharmagna Gopani and Mr. Manasvi Thapar, the founder of Candour Legal and the Co-Founder of Lothal Venture LLP, delivered motivational speeches on various topics ranging from Business to self-introspection to Principals of Life to Brain-Drain and Make in India.
On the second half of the day, Dr. Namrata Bajaj conducted the session ‘Management Lessons: Learning with Fun’. The students were sensitized towards effective listening and its significance in the profession of law through an activity. They were also involved in fun-filled exercise on ‘Team spirit’. The students were completely absorbed in the session interacting and participating enthusiastically in all the activities. Prof. Visharad Shukla and Prof. Avisha Nebhnani coordinated the session jointly with Dr. Bajaj. The pro-active students were rewarded towards the end of the session.
On the third day of the UWSL Induction Program 2017, seminar on Prison Administration: Role of Criminology and Penal Laws was inaugurated by welcoming our two esteemed guests Dr. Michael Pitaro and Dr. Akshat Mehta. Mr. Pitaro was the 1st key note speaker who is an expert in Prisoners Administration and has 25 years of experience in the same field. He talked about Prisoners Administration in perspective of USA. He talked about Federal, State and Local prisons, how they are managed, the crime ratio in United States along with the classifications of punishment according to the seriousness of crime. He also talked about the Social Structure Theory, causes of crime, Penal Law and Resilience skill Building in United States. Our second key note speaker, Dr. Akshat Mehta, Head of the Dept., Police Administration, Raksha Shakti University talked about Prison Administration in regards to Indian Perspective and how it needs to work and what kind of changes are necessary. He also associated and discussed the role of lawyers in accordance to Prison Administration. He gave an internal and crucial views and opinions on the prison management in India. He also discussed the rules and laws regarding custodial death of prisoner or accused and how it differs from the situation of custodial death in United States. Both the key note speakers also discussed the racial and monetary discrimination done with prisoners in United States and in India. The views and opinions of both the speaker were highly acknowledging and gave a grip on the subject to students. Their Mastery and Expertise has motivated the students a lot. Lastly, Dr. Debarati Halder proposed her vote of thanks to the respected dignitaries and the event concluded with the National Anthem.
Today, Unitedworld School of Law has organized its fourth day of the Orientation Program 2017 for their first semester B.B.A. LL.B. students (Batch 2017-22).
The day started with an insightful speech from Prof. Dr. Souvik Chettarji, who is currently working as the Assistant Professor at NLU, Jodhpur. He discussed the present Juvenile Laws and advocated to amend these laws. Apart from that, he also mentioned other laws such as Evidence Act, Forensic Science Laws and Police Laws that he thinks should be amended as soon as possible. He engaged the students with a myriad of practical examples and students also interacted with him with current affairs of law.
In the second half of the day, students enjoyed the company of Ms. Ruzan Khanmbatta, who is a well-known social activist and a successful entrepreneur. She mesmerized the students and the faculty members with her wit, charm and wonderful thoughts. Her uplifting speech gave the students a morale boost.
